How to make a pin board from an old frame

Last week I kicked off my DIY: Office Space Makeover Series for July with a cute little craft project around upcycling an old t-shirt into a throw cushion, which was a great hit. This week’s post is following on the same theme. If you have followed my blog for awhile now you will realise I am a bit of a thrift lover and enjoy nothing more then finding uses for old disused items. So it should be no surprise that this week’s DIY project was inspired around the upcycling of an old frame into a pin board for my home office space. The plan for this DIY: Office Space Makeover Series is to share with you each week a post around an individual project I have been working on, before the final home office reveal at the end of July. So make sure to keep checking back so you don’t miss the final reveal

This pin board was inspired by some gorgeous fabric I had left over from a previous craft project. I love the yellow and orange vibrant pattern that I feel incorporated some inspiration into my creative office space – something we all need from time to time. Again, with this project I simple upcycled items from around the house and incorporated thrift items to create something unique and useful for my current home space. Below I will outline each step, so you to can create this at home – and trust me, it is so simple!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Old Frame
  • Cardboard/Backing Board
  • Fabric
  • Padding
  • Staple gun

How to make a pin board from an old frame - Upcycling old second hand items is so rewarding and this DIY pin board was so much fun to make!

Step 1 – Cut your material to size, leaving approx 5cm overhanging of fabric to allow excess fabric to be stapled into backing board.

Step 2 – Placing the padded fabric in between the top decorative fabric and the backing board. Use your staple gun to secure the material in place making sure to pull it firm (make sure you have no wrinkles on the top layer of fabric).

Step 3 – Once the fabric has been secured to the backing board, place the board into place within the frame and secure (I simply nailed mine into place).

TADA – How simple is that!
