My home town Ipswich is a city offering much to the vintage lover at heart. Not only are the streets of the city centre lined with beautiful historic architecture, cute cafes, gourmet restaurants and a business precinct, but Ipswich also has a few other vintage gems hidden up its sleeve. For the vintage and antique lover in all of us, these shops are sure to make any shopping trip around the Ipswich area a sure-fire winner! You have been warned – you may not come home empty handed.
Furniture & Homewares Revival
This new vintage shop is hidden off the main streets, tucked away in the Booval suburbs. It is, however, making its presence felt and seen. Featuring upcycled and restored antique and vintage finds, the collection on display is just beautiful and you may find yourself wanting to take it all home with you. On my recent visit my in-laws left with an old antique school desk, complete with charming aged imperfections, a winning purchase from our day out.
R & R Behind Red Doors
Another new location in Ipswich, R & R Behind Red Doors has everything you could imagine from retro kitchen hutches to mid-century bedroom sets. Amongst rustic farmhouse goodies and upcycled vintage furniture you will surely be surprised with what is hiding in this gorgeously restored garage, just off the main stretch in Ipswich.
Ipswich Antique Centre (and Garage Sale)
I am not sure the Ipswich Antique Centre needs an introduction, as it has been a long-standing staple in Ipswich’s community. The Ipswich Antique Centre is HUGE and it really has EVERYTHING, even down to themed rooms such as the popular retro room. Looking for an antique poker table, a vintage dress or a piece of antique jewelry? You won’t go wrong here.
Located on the main street in Ipswich is this great eclectic store. There really is something for everyone here! I purchased two round mushroom-coloured cushions on my recent visit, but this is just one of many items available. Vintage Advantage has everything for the vintage hunter, from vintage clothing to antique furniture, and everything between.
Hidden away behind the grand old home that shares this location, is a beautiful collection of antique and vintage glassware, furniture and eclectic pieces. This showroom truly showcases the pride and dedication taken in sourcing each piece. Love pink depression glass, antique tea sets or fine china? This place is for you.
Marburg Scotland Yard
If you want to take in some country air, you must head out to the small country township of Marburg 15 minutes from Ipswich. Scotland Yard is a town icon and houses an array of Victorian and Edwardian items, alongside touches of a country-vibe with cast iron fences, rustic doors and gates, and characteristic finds from Queenslander houses.
Next time you are hunting for that eclectic piece of furniture, home décor item, one of a kind jewelry, or even if you are seeking a unique day out and about in Ipswich, make sure to pop into these great stores. The hunt is part of the fun!
